“Hot Tub”
Grand Prismatic Spring | Yellowstone N.P. | Wyoming
-The third largest hot spring in the world at about 370 ft in diameter and 121 ft deep, the Grand Prismatic Spring, truly lives up to its name. Given due to the colors matching the rainbow dispersion of white light by an optical prism: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The colors are caused by bacteria growing in the water and its temperature, averaging about 160°F. Steam rises from the spring and is whisked outward by the wind, spreading a strong sulfuric smell throughout the air. Experiencing this natural gem was truly an overload to the senses.”
