Here is my entry for the Best dressmaker #Simplicitysewingchallenge using the Simplicity 1458 sewing pattern. After finishing the dress, it turned out prettier than expected, so I made a fascinator using the fabrics “It will be rude not to” I told myself….laughing).
The beauty of this dress is that it is suitable,
- With a clutch bag or a large/bucket shaped handbag.
- With or without a hat/fascinator
- As a shift-dress, cocktail dress, work-wear, casual, wedding outfit and much more.
- Took a snapshot of materials needed… Oh I forgot to snap my sewing machine, threads(yellow, black), bobbins and the ruler!
- Pattern pieces were cut out and laid on the fabric to ensure that, the fabric is enough and also to make maximum use of the pattern curves to reduce fabric waste.
- With a rotary cutter and a ruler, I cut out strips of the yellow(100% cotton) fabric and then used the Simplicity bias maker to make the bias (this is for the piping details on the dress).
- Invisible zipper was used with an invisible zipper sewing machine foot, coordinating thread and bobbin thread.
(Picture coming up).
- I stitched the bias to one side of the pattern first and the other part/side of the pattern to it.
(Picture coming up).
The piping(yellow bias) meet neatly at the sides and shoulder giving the piping a continuous design (as if, being linked).
I ironed to set the seams in the right direction.
Lost some of my footage because, my camera was rejecting the memory card and developed a fault. I had to continue with my Phone camera when I discovered.
Need to upload the Pattern for the Children’swear competition entry before it closes.
