What to know what’s in our latest issue?
Issue 216 looks at the greatest-selling console of all time: Sony’s PlayStation 2. Mark Cerny, David Reeves and other gaming veterans recount the many things that made Sony’s second console a huge success.
Other PS2-related highlights of 216 include a quick look at the Namco G-Con 2 peripheral and an in-depth article on the first three Project Zero games with series creator, Makoto Shibata.
We celebrate two 8-bit classics in issue 216 as well. Our ultimate Guide focuses on Matthew Smith’s incredible Manic Miner, while Mark Cale talks to us about System 3’s popular Last Ninja series. Discover how the isometric adventure evolved across three games and how it shaped the likes of Tusker and Vendetta.
We have two great developers in the latest issue. Betty Ryan stops by to discuss her time working during the early days of the industry at GCC and Atari, while Tim Schafer looks back at his entire career, from Monkey Island to new titles like Psychonauts 2.
We also go behind the scenes of The Last Express, speak to Insomniac Games about the creation of its third PlayStation Spyro game, Spyro:Year Of The Dragon and discover why Metroidvanias are currently so popular with gamers and indie developers alike.
We’ve some lovely smaller articles as well, including pieces on Penguin Land, Missile Command, Neo Geo Pocket, Rambo III, Doom 64, Hades, Earth Defence Force 2017 and Wonderful Dizzy. The latest issue of Retro Gamer has something for everyone, so make sure you don’t miss out.
Thanks for your continued support. Subscribing to the mag really does help us. Stay safe and we’ll see you next month.
