“P” is for;

Punchcard: This is a card with holes, blanks stitches and rows which the machine reads to pattern the needles to create the pattern on the card.

Punching Machine: This is the equipment used for punching holes on the blank punchcard for knitting machines.

Point Cam: This is a knitting machine accessory with groves above and prongs underneath and a left or right marking on it which indicates the placement of the accessory on the knitting machine and it is used to indicate to the Magic Cams the placement of a single motif pattern or isolated pattern when knitting on the knitting machine.

Preparation: These are the steps taken before starting a knitting project, course, and many more.

Plain(yarn etc): This is a yarn of any weight whose colour is solid or not mixed with other colours or does not have a colour gradient.

Pull up: This is a machine knitting term used for the pulling up of stitches or loops that may be rehanged to create an effect or design.

Pullover- sweater/jumper: This is a term used for a knitted sweatshirt that has no button but is pulled over the head of the wearer.

Partial Knitting: This is the machine knitting technique used for shaping, creating curves, and flared designs whereby some of the needles on the needle bed are pushed to hold position to decrease the stitches and then pushed back to working position to increase the stitches after creating the effect desired.

Plaiting: This is a machine knitting technique that uses two or more yarns of different or the same weight to knit simultaneously thereby creating the effect of one yarn appearing on one side while the other yarn appears on the reverse

Position: This refers to the location of that garment, design, carriage or anything in machine knitting. The location of the object or item can be centre, left, right opposite, and many more.

Parts: This refers to a section of a garment or machinery, instruction and many more. For example, the sleeve is part of the garment. The carriage is a part needed for the knitting machine.

Points: This refers to the angle on the garment especially on the charting software.

Plotting: This is the art of charting or marking out points to create a design or pattern on a graph or charting software.

Pattern design: This is the design on the pattern if it is background, single motif, / this is different from the stitch pattern design which is lace, tuck, and can be repeated as a corner, decorative edge. This is also different from the garment design or style which is flared etc.

Pattern Drafting: Also known as Original pattern drafting is a process or act of creating a pattern for the required knitwear design or garment by using measurement and/ or shapes of the intended wearer.

Pockets: This is a small inset like a compartment in the part of the clothing and it is use for carrying small accessories or as an embellishment.

Patches: This is a piece of material used to mend a torn or weak part of the garment.

Picot Hem: This is a knotty pointed effect on the clothing hem. In machine knitting, – this knotty pointed effect is made by knitting equal rows on one side and then transferring every alternate stitch(also known as every other stitch) on each needle to the next needle with stitch then knitting an equal number of rows. Note that all needles for this effect must be in a working position. For example, if your picot hem is made up of 20 rows, you knit 10 rows first, transfer the stitch of every other needle to the next needle and then knit the remaining 10 rows.

Patchwork: This is a design created by different designs, coloured yarn, stitch patterns or motifs of different or the same geometric shapes sewn or joined together to create a large design on a garment.

PomPom: This is a small round woollen ball made from strands of yarn and used as embellishment on a garment.

PomPom maker: This is a circular object used for making pompoms.
