Competition: My entry for the Best blogger feature – using Simplicity Children’s pattern 1206 for the #Simplicitysewingchallenge

At last, I have finished the dresses for my models( As I said in a previous post here, that they are two). I really had fun making these, since I used fat quarters for the projects and had to sew it and match seams neatly.

I got the fabrics as 100% cotton fat quarters from Create and Craft.TV, I think the Solid/plain colours were Autumn fat quarters and the florals were Janine by The craft cotton company.

  • Took a snap shot of the materials.

  • Laid sewing pattern on fabrics.

  • Cut-out fabric pieces (from pattern) were laid(without sewing) to see how the dress will look-like and if I needed to alter a style.

  • Made bias strips(from fabric) using the Simplicity bias maker. The bias strips will be used for the arm hole of the dresses(under the sleeves).

  • Stitched the sides together leaving the back for buttonhole closure. Raw edges were folded in and stitched(the edges for the buttonhole/back zip).

  • Raw edges of arm hole after fitting the sleeves. So, I covered them using a bias binding because, I am not lining the dress.

  • Bias binding sewing machine foot was used to help in fitting the bias to the under arm of dress.simplicity-1206-dress-image-4-by-anino-ogunjobisimplicity-1206-dress-image-9-by-anino-ogunjobisimplicity-1206-dress-image-22-by-anino-ogunjobi
  • Had to sew buttonhole using the sewing machine buttonhole foot.

  • I forgot to change the colour of my bobbin thread. to the colour of the fabric underneath…..lesson learnt(when hurrying be a little careful or you will make so much errors). Had to loose the stitches using a seam-reaper/unsew tool and pin.

  • Also Stitched the buttons using the sewing machine button sewing foot.( I don’t do the job of a sewing machine, I allow them do theirs whilst I do mine,. That’s why I got them…..laughing). (Picture for the button sewing foot for sewing machine will be added later cos I lost some of my footage due to my camera developing fault).

Front of dress. You can see why this dress delights me and I had to make a variation for my second model. Also, I had to make hair bows to complement the dress.
