Announcing April’s Design Challenge Themes

  • Nautical | Entries due by March 26

Ships ahoy! From sailors and seashells to iconic maritime flags, there’s no shortage of inspiration once you set sail for this week’s design challenge. Crashing waves and rocking boats may be the anchor to your design, but don’t forget to think about how your nautical-inspired design could be used on home textiles. Whether it’s a pirate party for a pair of leggings or an elevated seersucker for a patio pillow, we can’t wait to see where the high seas take your design.

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close March 26 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 28. Winners will be announced April 4.

  • Pollinators | Entries due by April 2

Where would we “bee” without pollinators? From hummingbirds to bats, these invaluable creatures help keep our ecosystem thriving. Enjoy nuts, fruits and vegetables? You may be surprised to discover that we owe approximately three-quarters of our major food crops to these industrious beings. In this week’s design, create a repeating pattern inspired by the insects (and some vertebrates) who help diversify our plant life.

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close April 2 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins April 4. Winners will be announced April 11.

  • April Showers | Entries due by April 9

Spring is right around the corner at the Spoonflower HQ which can only mean one thing: April showers and May flowers! Will you weather this challenge with a prism of color or let the clouds have their day and celebrate jumping from puddle to puddle? Grab your umbrella and slide on your galoshes because by the end of this challenge, you’ll be singing in the rain!

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close April 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins April 11. Winners will be announced April 18.

  • Australian Flora | Entries due by April 16

Australia is home to over 24,000 species of plants, and the bright colors of these Down-Under delights are taking center stage in this week’s challenge. Will flowers like the banksia and spider orchid capture your eye or will you gravitate towards eucalyptus, the iconic evergreen tree with deep roots in the continent? There’s no shortage of colorful inspiration as your design blossoms from idea to entry.

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close April 16 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins April 18. Winners will be announced April 25.
