We’re kicking off our month-long design challenge series with a Spoonflower tradition: tea towel calendars! For this challenge, create a 2020 calendar to welcome in the new year. Get a head start with our 2020 calendar templates or create your own.

Pro tip: This is a great time to update the 2019 calendars in your shop to reflect the new calendar year!

Entries will be submitted at the Linen Cotton Canvas fat quarter size (27″ x 18”) and previewed on a Spoonflower Tea Towel. Submissions close September 24 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 26. Winners will be announced October 3.

  • Hand-Lettered Tea Towel | Entries due by October 1

Tea towels are the perfect way to display everything from a motivational quote, punny punchline or even a fun fact. In this week’s challenge, break out your pens, markers and Procreate brushes to create a design inspired by the art of typography. Whether you scan your handwritten lettering or work just in your go-to design program, the holidays are just the “write” time to gift a hand-lettered tea towel.

If you’re new to this style of design, Skillshare’s hand-lettering classes will help get you started.

Entries will be submitted at the Linen Cotton Canvas fat quarter size (27″ x 18”) and previewed on a Spoonflower Tea Towel. Submissions close October 1 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins October 3. Winners will be announced October 10.

  • Folk Art Tea Towel | Entries due by October 8

Folk art is a style that celebrates cultural heritage and reflects everyday life. What we love about this art form? It is of, by, and for the people, and most often features a handmade quality. Whether you choose to paint a rural scene, mimic folk-style embroidery or are inspired by an icon like a Swedish Dala horse, we want to see how you weave culture, community and tradition into an artful tea towel.

Entries will be submitted at the Linen Cotton Canvas fat quarter size (27″ x 18”) and previewed on a Spoonflower Tea Towel. Submissions close October 8 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins October 10. Winners will be announced October 17.

  • Zodiac Tea Towel | Entries due by October 15

We just read your October horoscope, and an amazing design is in your future! For this week’s challenge, we’re asking designers to look to the stars and create a tea towel design (perfect for holiday gifting) inspired by the zodiac. Get ideas by researching your own astrological moon or sun sign, or combine all 12 to represent the entire zodiac.

Entries will be submitted at the Linen Cotton Canvas fat quarter size (27″ x 18”) and  previewed on a Spoonflower Tea Towel. Submissions close October 15 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins October 17. Winners will be announced October 24.

  • Hometown Tea Towel | Entries due by October 22

It’s time to let your hometown pride shine in our first-ever Hometown Tea Towel Design Challenge. No matter where you live in the world, we want to see what makes your local community unique*—from the motifs that rep your local scene, to maps, landmarks, recipes, traditions and more. Think creatively as your design could not only be the perfect giftable tea towel but perhaps turned into a banner or flag too!

Entries will be submitted at the Linen Cotton Canvas fat quarter size (27″ x 18”) and  previewed on a Spoonflower Tea Towel. Submissions close October 22 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins October 24. Winners will be announced October 31.
