Announcing December’s Design Challenge Themes

In recognition of Christmas and New Year’s Day, there will be no Design Challenge the week of December 21 and 28.

Microscopic Worlds | Entries due by November 24

Inspired by the expansive imagination of a child, uncover what fantasy worlds hide beneath what the human eye can see. From fairy houses to the busy lives of tiny insects, bustling communities of organisms and more, your Microscopic World design should open a door into a hidden world we never knew existed.

Entries will be previewed on a 21″ x 18″ fat quarter. Submissions close November 24 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins November 26. Winners will be announced December 3.

Create Room | Entries due by December 1

Create Room is on a mission to help people create room in their lives for more joy and fulfillment through creativity, starting with a dedicated workspace. The DreamBox, their flagship product, is an all-in-one craft room, the ideal haven for any creative person. DreamBox owners love to adorn and decorate their haven for the most joyful crafting experience. This week we’re challenging you to create an inspiring pattern to use as the wallpaper backdrop in a DreamBox.

The pattern should not only provide visual joy, but should inspire both you and others to create more. As you design, be sure to ask yourself the question, “What would I love to look at everyday while creating?” If your design catches the eye of the Create Room team, you could become the new owner of your very own DreamBox!

Before you start, get to know Create Room, the DreamBox and how the Spoonflower team used Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper to dress up their DreamBox. See the full how-to.

Design tip: For this challenge we recommended focusing on non-directional, medium – large scale designs. Learn more about designing for wallpaper.

Entries will be previewed on a roll of Spoonflower wallpaper. Submissions close December 1 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins December 3. Winners will be announced December 10.

Continuous Line Contour | Entries due by December 8

Garment sewists and interior designers alike are lining up for designs inspired by continuous line art. Using a single, unbroken line, this week’s challenge is all about capturing the movement in your surroundings. Perfection need not apply as the beauty of this art form is all in the organic shapes objects take on. While traditionally created in black and white, try out a palette that has caught your eye this season. Need a little inspiration? Calming neutrals featured in the Autumn/Winter Trend Report give a loving nod to nature for a soothing palette.

Entries will be previewed on a 21″ x 18″ fat quarter. Submissions close December 8  at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins December 10. Winners will be announced December 17.
