Announcing September’s Design Challenge Themes

Autumn Botanicals | Entries due by August 24

Once a year we fall for color-changing leaves, acorns, gourds, and earthy florals. What will you choose to highlight in your ideal autumn arrangement?

Picture your design on table settings like placemats and napkins fit for a fall feast or Thanksgiving celebration. Include all your harvest time favorites such as colorful berries, rugged branches or uniquely shaped mushrooms and pine cones. Explore fall-festive color palettes surrounding the beauty of the changing season, with colors like burnt orange, golden yellow or taupe brown.

Entries will be previewed on a 21″ x 18″ fat quarter. Submissions close August 24 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 26. Winners will be announced September 2.

Ice Crystals | Entries due by August 31

Bundle up for this week’s challenge because we’re hitting the ice! From blankets of snow to walls of crystal-like icicles, frozen water can present itself in so many beautiful forms.

When the temperatures drop below freezing we get so much inspiration from the natural world. Take a closer look at geometric snowflakes, frost-covered windows, gigantic glaciers, and slick skating ponds. There is no shortage of creative (and chilly!) considerations for the wintry design from the brrrr-rillant Spoonflower artist community.

Entries will be previewed on a 21″ x 18″ fat quarter. Submissions close August 31 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 2. Winners will be announced September 9.

Petal Solids Coordinates: Joy | Entries due by September 7

This month, two of our contests will ask artists to create a design that coordinates with a collection of three colors available soon as Petal Signature Cotton® Solids.

Coming in September, Petal Signature Cotton Solids are new 100% cotton solid dyed fabrics that make it easier than ever for makers to coordinate with their favorite Spoonflower designs.

Our Research & Development team worked hard to identify RGB hex codes that perfectly match our Petal Signature Cotton Solids. This week, create a design that utilizes the colors: Lagoon (#2F909F), Mustard (#C3932B), and/or Cotton Candy (#F1D2D6) to use alongside the Petal Solids fabrics.

These fun, gender-neutral colors are sure to spark joy for whatever sewing or craft project they are used for! Imagine your design along these three colors used in projects like a quilt, for kid’s apparel or a color-blocked tote bag.

An Important Note About Your Design Challenge Entry

Artists must use 1, 2 or all 3 colors from the provided Petal Solids hex codes colors Lagoon (#2F909F), Mustard (#C3932B), and Cotton Candy (#F1D2D6). Additional colors are ok to use, but we recommend keeping it simple with no more than 4 colors total (not including black and white) to ensure your design coordinates well with the colors Lagoon, Mustard and Cotton Candy.

Buy your Petal Signature Cotton Solids Swatch Book today to explore a 2″ x 2″ (5 cm x 5 cm) swatch of all 50 soon-to-be-available dyed solid color options.

Entries will be previewed on a 21″ x 18″ fat quarter. Submissions close September 7 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 9. Winners will be announced September 16.
