DESIGN CALL: 60 Quick Granny Squares
Hello, designer!
We are thrilled to announce a call for a new book in the 60 Quick Crochet series. This time, the theme is Granny Squares. All projects in this book will use Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Sport.
While the traditional granny square has a very specific look and construction, this book will include traditional and non-traditional granny squares of all kinds. Please reference any of your favorite granny square collections or stitch dictionaries for inspiration.
DESIGN SUGGESTIONS
Please submit whatever inspires you, but some things we’d like to see are:
- A shape or shapes within the overall square
- Creative ways to use negative space within the square (ie: “cutouts” or lace-like elements)
- Fun uses of color
- Easy patterns that are engaging to crochet and fun to look at
- We will consider only a few motifs that use 3D elements, meaning additional pieces that are created separately and then sewn to the square
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
As the various squares in this book are meant to be joined together, we have the following strict requirements for each design. Submissions that do not meet all of these requirements will not be accepted.
- Finished motif is 6″/15cm square
- Worked in the round from the center out
- The outer edges of the completed square must form a square, meaning that each side must be a straight edge so that it can easily be seamed to other squares.
- The outer edges of the completed square must be straight and smooth to aid seaming. This means no points, picots, bobbles, etc. on the outer edges.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Submit via email to designsub@sohopub.com.
- Put “60 Quick Granny Squares” in the email’s submit line.
- Submit each design as a separate pdf, jpg, or doc attachment (you may send several submissions in a single email) at a maximum of 2 pages and 2 MB per design.
- Ensure that your name, physical mailing address, email, and phone number are listed on each page of each submission. If it isn’t, your submission(s) might not be accepted.
The deadline for all submissions is Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 9:00 am EST.
