knitter's poem price 2b for anino ogunjobi by Thomas B Ramsden

As a retailer of the Thomas B. Ramsden’s yarns/products, we do enter into competitions from time to time.

May 2015 was a competition for a Knitting poem.

I forgot about it, until the 29th of May 2015, when I received a reminder newsletter about the competition. I didn’t have much time now, since I was sewing my dress project for the simplicity star sewist competition (Here).

All thesame, I wrote some terms used in knitting, but then remembered machine knitting, yarns weight/ply and much more.

The poem was finally finished. I was scared to submit, at the same time, I asked myself; what if you were meant to win? and so many questions, raced through my mind.

At 23:45 (GMT) on 31st of May 2015 (some minutes for the competition to close), I submitted my poem for the competition.

2nd of June 10am (GMT), I checked my e-mail and I saw two mails from the same person. I thought that they sent the mail twice., but opening the mail, I saw that the first mail was a short message saying “wow, such a beautiful poem”.

The second mail read” congratulations, you are the winner of the knitting poem competition”.

I was excited. Below is the poem that I submitted and above is the picture of my prize. Happy Reading!

The knitter’s poem by  Anino Ogunjobi

We knit , we purl,

Darn all the yarns.

K1, K2, we say

Needles clicking, circular, straight

double pointed and cable.

A tuck stitch to go,

a lace stitch to make,

But do not cast off, yet!

Set the row counter,

Hold the stitches,

‘Cos, we need to knit a row.

Short row, we say,

ribbed welt or band,

a stitch gauge to measure.

To cable it all, and bead a row

Popcorn stitch is fair.

Climbing high on a lattice cable

a stripe of stockinet I see,

but can it be that a garter stitch

will make our knitting pattern.

Hand knit or machine knit

which do we prefer!

A knit leader or radar,

transfer a stitch,slip a stitch.

Set the carriage to hold,

machine kniting can be done.

Punchcard, electronic, manual bed or none.

we’ll do all it takes, to get our pattern right,

before we cast on.

Increase a stitch, decrease a stitch,

knit 2 together, charting software says.

Yarn over and swiss darning,

until we end the row.

Design a garment, but no felting

chunky, double knit, 3ply.

Eyelets to go, pompoms of course

A fairIsle it’s all about.

At last! we cried

a knitwear is done.

All hail the great knitters.
