Announcing 2019 September’s Design Challenge Themes

Neutral Retreat | Entries Due by August 27

1-Yard Cheater Quilt | Entries Due by September 3

In the hands of our imaginative designer community, this week’s 1-Yard Cheater Quilt challenge is sure to break outside of the creative box. Think beyond the traditional 6″ block cheater quilt; the 1-yard (42” x 36”) canvas is your playground for color, shapes, composition and style. Will your eye-catching quilt double as a modern wall hanging and offer a sleek aesthetic or maybe you’d like to cater to children? However unique you decide to go, keep in mind that your quilt should not be set to a centered repeat. Before you get started, be sure to head to the blog to see first hand how one designer elevated this traditional quilt template.

Entries will be previewed at the one yard size: 42” x 36”. Submissions close September 3 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 5. Winners will be announced September 12.

Halloween Embroidery | Entries Due by September 10

A mysterious chill in the air has slithered its way into the Weekly Design Challenges! From spooky to kooky, we’re challenging you to create an embroidery project inspired by the most bootiful day of the year. Whether it’s an engineered embroidery template inspired by your childhood Halloween memories or a hair-raising repeating pattern that springs to life with touches of hand-stitched embroidery, we hope this challenge will be all treats and no tricks.

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close September 10 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 12. Winners will be announced September 19.

Winter Flora | Entries Due by September 17

From poinsettias to pine trees, holly and mistletoe, too, we want to see your best repeating surface design inspired by winter plant-life. ‘Tis the season for shoppers to start filling their carts with seasonal designs in preparation for the holidays, so help them get in the spirit with a festive print spotlighting all the flora that makes winter the most magical time of year.

Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close September 17 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 19. Winners will be announced September 26.
